Thirty Years Of MOTU: Nov- Dekker And King Randor!

Paladin here, welcome to another thrilling episode of Masters of the Universe Classics! This month features two pretty cool characters and a selection of great photos and commentary. Joining me once again this month is Miss M who will be taking over MOTUC in 2013. So, let’s get on with it, starting with Dekker!

The 200X series–AKA MYP (Mike Young Productions) of Masters of the Universe added a bunch of new characters to try to broaden the story that was started in the early 80’s. One of the coolest characters was Dekker, the trainer of Man-At-Arms.

The figure comes packaged as usual for a standard single figure—mine includes a bent corner on the card, awesome!!! Worth the 20-some bucks!!! Good thing I was opening it anyway.

The back of the card has the…you guessed it! The also available which features Clawful, Dekker’s worse enemy—uh oh! {Yeah, I know, the flash cut him off, oh well}.
Dekker’s bio is pretty much the story in the 200X cartoon, so it’s fine. The bio artwork is also from the cartoon and looks so “Anime,” really cool.

Dekker comes with 2 heads, one is shown in the package and the other is when he was young. Seen here, Dekker runs around top-less showing off his roid-wreck for the ladies!

The back of young Dekker tells the other MOTU guys that it might be time to lay off the steroids…

For lack of an unpackaged Clawful, I chose to use Stinkor in his place, after-all, the Stink-man is the greatest villain after Skeletor, right? Right.
Stinky has met with Dekker to stink up his island paradise which just so happens to be in the same exact spot as the Talon Fighter—you got to be kidding me! Dekker can hold his own, but…

Here to stand by his old teachers’ side is 200X Classics, Man-At-Arms and 200X Teela, the Heroic Warrior Goddess!!! The three send Stink-O running for his stench before he is clubbed and stabbed to death.

Finally, the old friends (and new) can talk about the old days and how the Teenage Teela is now Captain of the Royal Guard—making both old men feel worthless…Time to get loaded! Teela, your too young.

Dekker is really a cool figure, I wasn’t gung-ho for him because I prefer characters that I remember growing up, but the sculpt is great and he’ll look awesome late next year with Castle Grayskull.
Regardless of paint issues with the back of Dekker’s upper robe, his long hair covers it and I don’t look at the back anyhow. The face sculpt is perfect and the alternate head is really clean too. The club that Dekker comes with does look like the one Man-At-Arms comes with, but it has its own detail and appears electronic in the shaft.

GRADE: A+ (Really, Dekker is a nice figure and in the end, I’m glad they made him).

Paladin-

Let’s continue the fun shall we? The 30th anniversary of MOTU has pulled out all the stops with the Classics line. One aspect to this line that has had fans frothing at the mouth has been the countless possibilities for Filmation inspired characters to have their chance at being made in figure form. King Randor has already seen a release based upon his action figure from the vintage toy line, but fans of his look from the vintage He-Man cartoon are in for a treat with the recently released King Randor in Filmation style!

KR1 Thirty Years Of MOTU: Nov Dekker And King Randor!

King Randor is like the rest of the MOTUC figures; he is packed on the same card and comes with some pieces. One interesting thing to note is that this version of Randor’s tagline says: Eternos Palace Figure. The other version of Randor features the tagline: Heroic Ruler of Eternia Figure. That is the perfect distinction, because the two versions of Randor do have some differences (more on that in a second.)

KR2 Thirty Years Of MOTU: Nov Dekker And King Randor!

The back of the card has some fun stuff going on. First there is the cool 30th Anniversary logo at the top as well as some images of previous releases. How cool is Scareglow? Below is also the requisite bio.

KR3 Thirty Years Of MOTU: Nov Dekker And King Randor!

The bio has a picture of Randor from the old He-Man cartoon. This bio also features some interesting details that expand on the drama between Randor and his brother. However, I’m personally waiting for the bio that gets to explain how Randor and Marlena met and fell in love. I’m a sucker for romance on another planet.

KR4 Thirty Years Of MOTU: Nov Dekker And King Randor!

Randor really looks good doesn’t he? There are some new sculpts and details that went into this figure. He has new lower leg pieces, new upper arms/shoulder pieces, and the sculpts for his coat and robe are also new. So the fabulous Four Horsemen really did a great job of designing this figure to look like his Filmation counterpart.

KR5 Thirty Years Of MOTU: Nov Dekker And King Randor!

I really love the draping of his jacket. It really carries a regal look to it all the while making it look like this figure stepped out of the cartoon and on my shelf. The coat does not come off, but Randor still features the same level of articulation like most of the MOTUC figures.

KR6 Thirty Years Of MOTU: Nov Dekker And King Randor!

It’s comparison time! Here are both Randor Classics. There are some reused parts for these figures, like the head, lowers arms, and upper legs, but there were actually some big changes made for this variant. Many fans seem to also be pleased with the Filmation Randor as some felt that toy version was a bit loud and garish with the design and color scheme. I believe some fans referred to the toy style Randor as the King from Burger King. However, I am glad that the color scheme kept a cohesive appearance between the two figures.

KR7 Thirty Years Of MOTU: Nov Dekker And King Randor!

Unlike the toy version, this Randor comes with some casual pieces. A chalice and spear/staff are packed with this version of Randor, and I just have to say… I love Randor’s pimp cup. It just seems like such a random item to include with a figure. Yes, the design makes sense and it all flows together, but it is just an unexpected item. I love it. Bonus points for the ease in which these pieces fit. The cup snaps into Randor’s hands easily and the spear/staff slides in. (One could snap it in too, but I found it easiest to just slide the staff in.)

KR8 768x1024 Thirty Years Of MOTU: Nov Dekker And King Randor!

So here is the first family of Eternia. Ready for the holidays with a tree straight out of the Whispering Woods, this new Randor fits in very well with the rest of his family members. I enjoy both Randor figures, but they each serve their own purpose. The caped Randor looks ready for battle, while this version of Randor is more relaxed. So far he is the second Filmation inspired release into the Classics line, and I think he is a great addition. From what I have last seen; he is still available on Mattycollector.com.

GRADE: A+ I like the design as well as the extra details that were put into this Randor variant. The plus sign is for his pimp cup.
