Sega is really pumping this franchise out like Tiger Woods going through girls. The third game was just released in the states this year, and the fourth one will be released next year. You’ll get to play as Kazuma and 3 new characters.
The Yakuza series are an action/adventure starring Kazuma, a former yakuza. The game is similar to Shenmue, and takes place in Tokyo, Japan.
Story: Yakuza 4 picks up the story of Yakuza 3 one year later and takes the player back to Tokyo. The story starts when a man is shot to death in the ruling territory of the Tojo Clan, the organisation that has featured in all games in the series to date. A small gang which belongs to Tojo Clan try to establish what happened and their leader is soon found stabbed to death. These events cause a heated battle between four men over money, power, status and honour. The truth becomes apparent as the lies, betrayals and entwined stories are revealed and when these 4 unflinching men get together, the new legend of Kamurocho is born.
I’ve beaten the first and second game, but really couldn’t get into the story because of so many characters being introduced with long Japanese names (for those that can remember all their names, more power to you). It gets to the point where I don’t care about the characters and just want to chill and flirt with the hostess girl at the bar. I have yet to play the third one, but the visuals look pretty sweet. Looks like I’m going to have to finish Yakuza 3 before part 4 comes out.
