Whoa!  Awweesssooommme!  I love shooting stuff!  It makes me feel good inside, like when I eat warmed-up Reese’s Butter Cups!

Why is it that the only non-shooter games I’m interested in on the 360 are Fable 2 and Devil May Cry 4A quick look at metacritic.com will help you to realize that too many of the 360’s best games are shooters.  Even worse than that is the fact that a lot of its games are tied down to reality.  How many times do we have to be a soldier in WW2?  Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon are cool, but where’s the variety?

Some reasons the 360 is swamped with shooters:

Easy to make (not much thought required).

Easy to play (two sticks and the right trigger are the basics).

You get to shoot people and win at least some of the time (all it takes is a grenade or rocket launcher for even noobs to do well).

Young teens think they are cool because they can play “mature” bloody games in which they can PwnZorz other people.

Sure, I’ll play the new Resident Evil, but I can’t help but feel that the 360 market is stuck in a hole of realistic/shooter games, with no end in sight; thankfully there are games like Prototype coming out this year that will shake up the “big games” scene.  Games that don’t have to worry about being realistic are a breath of fresh air, because the developers can just focus on making them fun.  Let me know if you feel the same way that I do about the 360’s games.
