2 big movies are coming out this weekend, Paranormal Activity 2 and Clint Eastwood’s HereAfter. I was bored with the original Paranormal Activity but there’s plenty of buzz for the low budget movie. HereAfter is getting a wide release this week but this one will probably flop.
Paranormal Activity 2 is getting a 72% rating at Rottentomatoes. I thought Paramount releasing a crappy sequel but I’m probably wrong. It seems to have enough scares and character development that the critics liked it. Larsen On Film describes it as a great horror movie: “As a portrait of an American family under paranormal siege, this can proudly stand next to Poltergeist.” I still won’t watch this at the movies, definitely a rental.
HereAfter‘s score actually lowered from last week from59% to 50%. This looked good in the previews with crazy end of the world shots and some drama behind it. Globe and mail describes it as “viewer waits, at first expectantly and later with increasing irritation, as the disparate story strands are forced together in the “are you kidding?” finale.” The critics are torn because it feels like an M. Night movie and some parts are really slow. Am I still going to watch it? Maybe a rental…
Expect Paranormal Activity 2 to kill competition at the box office. The hype for this movie is crazy.
