This weekend’s release includes a CG movie along with a flick from the director of Slumdog Millionaire. Robert Downey Jr. is also in a comedy movie. from the director of Hangover. Let’s take a look at the reviews.
Will Ferrell voices the blue likeable villain in Megamind. It’s a 3D CG movie by Dreamworks and it will probably be #1 this weekend. It’s getting a 67% rating at Rottentomatoes. Huffington Post describes it as”….a blast. Take your kids. Stay with them. There are plenty of laughs for everyone. Bring your asprin for the 3D headache.” It seems like the 3D might be crap but kids won’t care.
After Slumdog Millionaire, director Danny Boyle is back with 127 Hours. James Franco stars in the movie as mountain climber who gets trapped under a boulder for several days. From the previews, it seems like his quick cuts from Slumdog is back. It’s getting a phenomenal review at 93%. The story sounds boring but AskMen.com was surprised with the movie, “127 Hours is more entertaining than it has any right to be.” The movie is playing in limited release. This is my pick of the week, Slumdog was suprisingly great and Boy’s follow up seems to be as good.
Zack Galifianakis (Hangover) has teamed up again with director Todd Phillips (Old School) for another road trip movie with Robert Downey Jr in Due Date. This looks corny and Galifianakis acting like his character from Hangover doesn’t help either. It’s getting a below average rating at 39%. E! Online hated the movie, “Random goofiness only begets more tired jokes.” This will be a rental for me.
Those are the major movies for this week folks! See you at the theatre and make sure don’t text, especially you high school kids!!
