UFC is having another free show on Spike and that’s good news for the fans. The main event looks exciting with Gomi making his first appearance in the UFC. The first fight is on Wednesday, 3/31, on Spike at 8pm ET. Make sure to check your local listings because Spike’s schedule can be a bit confusing.
Kenny Florian vs. Takanori Gomi – Gomi will try to keep this fight standing, he is known for his heavy hands. Florian should be smart here, and try to take Gomi down. However, Gomi’s takedown defense is pretty good. So, I see Florian with no choice but to stand with Gomi, at least on the 1st Rd. Towards the end of the first round, Gomi will get tired, and will get subbed in the 2nd Rd.
Florian by RNC – Rd. 2
Roy Nelson vs. Stefan Struve – Nelson will not stand with the 6’11 Struve, Nelson will take this fight to the ground and lay on Struve for 3 Rds.
Nelson by UD
Nate Quarry vs. Jorge Rivera – Both guys have decent stand-up, but no KO power. Both fighters will circle around for three rounds, sometimes, engaging each other but will cause no real damage. Quarry will win by points.
Quarry by SD
Ross Pearson vs. Dennis Siver – Pearson is a superb wrestler. Pearson will take Siver down, and finish him with GnP.
Pearson by TKO – Rd.1

“…Nelson will take this fight to the ground and lay on Struve for 3 Rds.”
lol…I want someone bigger to lay on Big Country and see how he likes it. That fat fool just has tricks, but isn’t very skilled. The first fight he won in UFC, he used one of his hands to block the sight of his opponent and then swung with the other hand.
Whenever I see Kenny Florian, the only thing I can think of is his whiny-sounding threat, “I want BJ’s belt!”. I’d rather see anyone else win over Kenny.
This must be one of the slower fight nights…
Oh…it’s free…yeah…I can tell.

Actually the Gomi/Florian is a very interesting match. Gomi has been in a funk lately but he used to be one of the best fighters a couple of years ago.
Hopefully the new scene that is UFC will get him motivated again. Im picking Florian to win though.

Why is his name gomi, anyway? It means “trash/garbage” in Japanese. How sad. I can’t see that as a motivational tool.

“I AM Gomi!!”
I’m certain his Japanese characters are different, but still…
