Here are my thoughts from UFC 99:
– I didn’t really know Dan Hardy before his fight against Marcus Davis. They were talking smack before the fight and Dan Hardy won a split decision. Now that I’ve seen his antics, I don’t like him. He talks too much trash. I’m glad Davis didn’t shake his hand after the fight. That’s real bad blood.
– CroCop was back in the UFC after being cut for losing to mediocre fighters. He won but still didn’t look impressive. Cro Cop looked really slow and sluggish. There’s no way he’ll be a champ in the UFC. Lesnar would destroy him.
– Cain Velasquez was impressive in his wrestling clinic against Kongo. He was pretty fast and Kongo didn’t have an answer for the takedowns.
– Regarding Kongo, why does his bjj suck when he’s been fighting in MMA for more than 8 years. He deserved to lose for being stupid. He also tried to take Velasquez down. Really, a striker trying to take an excellent wrestler down? Not going to happen. Again, stupid gameplan from Kongo.
– Wanderlei Silva and Rich Franklin put on a show for the German fans. Silva looked focused from the get go while Franklin was also game. Silva put the pressure on the second and third round and Franklin was in trouble a couple of times. Franklin still won the fight through unanimous decision but I felt that Silva was robbed. Silva did more damage and tried to finish the fight.
– Speaking of finishing fights, maybe the UFC should change the rules and give more credit to the fighter that’s going for the kill in the final round. They had this rule in Pride.
– Back to Wanderlei, how awesome was that when he was throwing bombs and raised his hands up several times to pump up the crowd. After the fight, he said he fought for the fans and got a big cheer. That’s why Wanderlei is one of my favorite fighters, he always entertains!
