True Blood – Season 1 Review

What could’ve been a great TV show, wasn’t so great afterall. The whole season was full of surprises, and interesting characters. But, somehow, they manage to wreck the finale. What a disappointment, all the build up, the interesting sub-plots, suddenly took a dive in the last episode.

TrueBlood04 True Blood Season 1 Review

True Blood is an HBO series about vampires in Lousiana. They are not very popular amongst the humans because they are stereotyped as evil, and murderers. The story revolves around a bar waitress named Sookie, played by Anna Paquin. Although not a vampire, she considers herself a freak because she can read people’s minds. Naturally, she sympathizes for the vampires, and tries to defend them whenever she can. She meets a very stoic, and apparently sexy vampire that has been around for over 100 years, their relationship is somewhat awkward and funny. But, the true mystery of the show is that there is a serial killer in town, and nobody knows if it’s a vampire, or a human.

Overall, this is a great show minus the finale. It’s a blend of drama and comedy. Although, the story line is very far-fetched, but at the same time, HBO managed to keep things somewhat believable. My main issue with the finale is that they tried too hard to set things up for Season 2. They should have focused on the current plot, instead, they went way off-track and it was all over the place. The characters became overwhelmed by the unnecessary sub-plots, and I lost interest in almost all of them. But, I still liked the show, and still would recommend it, but don’t get your hopes up for the finale.

Grade: C+ (would’ve been a B+ if it wasn’t for the finale.)
