Although Transformers 2 made a lot of bank at the box office, Michael Bay is taking note of the negative comments about the film from fans and critics; things like the ghetto twins, ass shots of John Turturro, and robot humping come into mind. I’ll give him the benefit of a doubt that there might be hope for Transformers 3 because I loved the first one. USA Today talks with Michael Bay and Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura about what to expect from the third movie and why the second one pretty much blew.
“I’ll take some of the criticism,” says Bay. “It was very hard to put (the sequel) together that quickly after the writers’ strike (of 2007-08).”
“We tried to do too many things in the second movie, which didn’t give enough time in any one of them. We were constantly jumping to the next piece of information, the next place,” says Lorenzo.
As for the third movie, this is what Bay had to say. “This one really builds to a final crescendo. It’s not three multiple endings,” the director says. It better be if Shockwave is going to be the villain.
“One thing we’re getting rid of is what I call the dorky comedy,” Bay adds. So the twins, the two bumbling, slang-spewing robots? “They’re basically gone,” he says, though John Turturro returns for comic relief.
More Transformers details:
Sam will be taking his first step into becoming an adult; for example, looking for a job.
The story will revolve around the space race between the USSR and the US, tying to things that we learned in history with what REALLY happened.
Sam will have a new love interest for story sake, with Shia Labeouf saying that Sam and Mikaela won’t bring anything new to the third movie in terms of story.
Characters will die. There is no going back, like in Transformers 2 with Optimus, Megatron, and Sam being revived.
Transformers 3 as a trilogy will really end. After that, a reboot is more likely.

“John Turturro returns as comic relief”? The entire movie was nothing but comic relief, with maybe Optimus Prime as the only serious part therein. I say the negative comments and all that crap is well deserved. And I think Michael Bay’s only good movie was… I’ll have to think about that one. 🙂

As far as Bay’s one good movie, I’d go with the Rock. And looking back, it’s probably more b/c of Connery, Cage and Harris than b/c of Bay himself. That’s my vote, anyway.
