Skeletor, Evil Lord Of Destruction, Overlord Of Evil. Either way you put it, he will always be known as He-Man’s worse enemy.
He-Man, The Most Powerful Man In The Universe! The Heroic icon of the 80’s and forever more.
From the Masters of the Universe Classics collection comes some of the cleanest, most articulated versions of Skeletor and He-Man to ever hit the market. With multiple points of articulation, attention to detail and classically enhanced paint schemes, Skeletor and He-Man are truly the center of ones MOTU collection!
He-Man is armed with his classic 3 pieces of heroism. Including his gray axe, gray shield with orange inserts and the gray Power Sword half–also included is a solid gray Power Sword. He-Man’s breast plate armor is sculpted with a holder for his sword on the back and it’ll also hold the axe when the sword is in use.
The back of the package features other figures available and a great bio on He-Man. (Oddly, the flash of the camera cut off Stratos’ head? I could have taken another shot, but its a rare occurrence).
Skeletor is well-equipped with a solid purple sword, a purple half Power Sword and his ram-head Havoc staff. His armor allows for his sword to sheath into the back.
The back of the package shows the standard “also available” and character bio. However, the picture used in the bio section is one that I remember and totally love! This picture was from one of the pages of the oldest versions of the Mini comics included back in the early 80’s. This book was called “The Vengeance of Skeletor”. In this story, He-Man is set up to be killed and is sent to a watery grave by Mer-Man. He-Man is saved by Stratos and joins (yellow-haired) Teela in defense of Castle Grayskull from the evil forces of Skeletor!
Another book I (still) have is called “King of Castle Grayskull” it featured a story where Teela was the guardian of the castle and waited for it’s next ruler. Skeletor obtains both halves of the Power Sword and unlocks the jaw bridge. After taking over the castle, He-Man rescues Teela and sends Skeletor on his way. The old books were awesome and were formatted with the pictures and story separate with no word bubbles. These books are also marked 1981 so they are almost 30 years old.
In regard to the very old mini comics, I’m still searching for “He-Man and the Power Sword” its not easy to come by in good enough condition, this story features He-Man’s true origin where he meets Sharella (the green Teela) who gives him his equipment such as the coradite armor, his first Sky-Sled, axe, shield and even his boots! She also tells him of the great Power Sword halves!
When talking about the fan base and mythos of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, it’s always a big deal when referring to and remembering Skeletor and He-Man. Being the main characters, they truly have become icons that people have either heard of or know very well.
I recommend Skeletor and He-Man as starting points for new MOTU Classics collectors, might as well start with the main characters first.
The look and details of the figures themselves are simply excellent, as a collector of MOTU Classics I waited too long to get the single packs of Skeletor and He-Man–keeping a place for them with the DC Universe/MOTU 2 packs of Superman and He-Man with just the axe and shield and Lex Luthor and Skeletor with a yellow sword (energy blade?) AND the Mo-Larr VS Skeletor set from the 2010 SDCC. These are the figures I feel all collectors should have, they are perfect and hold second place as my favorite Skeletor and He-Mans with the 2002 figures being number one.
