Ever since I was a kid, I’ve always loved movie soundtracks. To me, soundtracks are essential parts of the films. Think of horror films, would it be as scary without music? Think of Michael Bay films, if Bay didn’t emphasize of the importance of music, his heroic montages wouldn’t feel so epic. I grew up watching Bruckheimer movies so I was exposed to a bunch of Hans Zimmer and Trevor Rabin soundtracks. Their music are very bold, very in-your-face style where they don’t try to be subtle, at all.
James Horner is a composer with a different style, I believe he uses more of a classical tone than Zimmer and Rabin. I first noticed Horner in Titanic. Remember that popular song by Celine Dion? The music was composed by Horner, and was used in the film, minus Celine Dion’s vocals. Horner also did Braveheart and Perfect Storm. Braveheart is a great film, but Perfect Storm was mediocre at best. The best scenes of the movie was at the beginning before they headed out to sea, and the end when the storm was over. Both scenes were elevated by Horner’s score.
Below in my list, I have two movies scored by Randy Edelman. Edelman doesn’t do too many movies, but his music always catches my attention. Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story is a campy movie meant for kids, but Edelman’s score is the only reason why I keep watching the film. He adds drama and emotion to the, otherwise, not-so-great scenes. I think that his music are meant for movies with Romantic undertones. An example of this would be Last of the Mohicans. Most people would say that this is an action-drama. But, in reality, this film is a love story.
So, without further ado, here is my top-10 list. I tried putting scenes below the soundtracks, if available.
10 – Gladiator (Hans Zimmer)

2 – The Last of the Mohicans (Randy Edelman) – Although I feel that the movie is a bit dated now, the soundtrack is still epic. I’m not a musician, but I think that Edelman used a violin to score this film.
