Firstly, this was an amazing event. Leading up to the fight, I had no interest in the card. I mean who really gave a hoot that Chael Sonnen gets a title-shot against Anderson Silva. But, as time went by, Sonnen’s off-beat comments about Silva made this card more and more appealing. Sonnen commented, “Everybody says he’s a great fighter, but when did he ever fight?” I actually predicted Sonnen to win via SD, I came close to predicting one of the greatest upsets in MMA history. Too bad, Sonnen messed everything for me by getting triangled in the 5th Rd. Sonnen won all 4 rounds by outstriking Silva, then taking him to the ground.

All the fights were entertaining; Roy Nelson showed us that he has a lot of heart, Junior Dos Santos gave Nelson every uppercut in the book, Nelson lost but wouldn’t go down; Matt Hughes finishing off Ricardo Almeida was epic, first, he knocked Almeida down, and finished with a “wrestling” choke.

The lowlights of the night is Jon Fitch vs. Thiago Alves. This was a hug-a-thon. Alves wasn’t the same Alves we’re used to seeing, he was slow and sluggish. Maybe he’s upset about the 20% paycut due to not making weight. It’s your fault Thiago. Fitch was the same old Fitch, pretty boring. Hey, all that matters is he wins fights! Another lowlight was the Stephen Struve fight. After touching gloves in the second round, Struve threw a cheap low kick to his opponent. Thereafter, he won by KO. He was getting his ass handed to him in the first, then he acted like he won the belt after a cheap move.

But, even the Struve fight was entertaining. It was one of the best MMA events I’ve seen this year.
