Transformers Animated: The Complete Series; DVD Review!

Transformers Animated: The Complete Series; DVD Review!

New on DVD from SHOUT! Factory and Hasbro is Transformers Animated: The Complete Series. Spanning 6 DVD’s holding 42 episodes of what I feel is the best version of Transformers lore since the original 80’s cartoon.

Transformers Animated has taken a lot of flak for being cartoony and almost childish—the exclusion of guns over melee and other gripes here and there. What people are missing is the beautiful HAND DRAWN artwork and animation, the interesting story that unfolds throughout the entire series and seeing their favorite characters depicted in a more unconventional way.

The stand out episode comes from Season …

Vintage Toy of the Month: Synergy!

Vintage Toy of the Month: Synergy!

“It’s show time Synergy!” This was just a simple phrase uttered by a rock star that unleashed a world of music and magic in a cartoon known as Jem and the Holograms. There are many things that can define the 80’s, and to forget about the cultural impact of Jem and the Holograms s a crime against pop culture itself. Since this is a New Year and a new chance to look back monthly on some exciting vintage toys from yesteryear, what better way to start all the vintage toy goodness than by looking at the name that says it all: …

The Misfits are gonna get ya! Hasbro and Integrity Toys recently released the three original Misfits in updated doll form and right now we are going to look at the head Misfit: Pizzazz! Read on for all the details on the outrageously mean villainous from Jem and the Holograms.

The main box with sleeve is simply breathtaking. Much like the boxes for Jem and the Holograms, Integrity Toys found a way to make something truly unique for the characters. The Misfits packaging is full of sharp lettering and dark coloring complete with the outline of a guitar. It looks very “rock …

Movie Review: G.I. Joe Retaliation

Movie Review: G.I. Joe Retaliation

Hasbro and Paramount pictures released G.I. Joe Retaliation this past Friday (March 29th, 2013) amid a very interesting course of events. The movie was supposed to have come out this past summer, but was changed a few months before. Fans every which way had their theories as to why this was happening, but Paramount was only able to say that they wanted to convert the movie for a 3D experience and that was the reason for the new delay.

With all this anticipation, I knew I would have to see the movie. And that is exactly what I did. Now let …

Girls Who Rule! Kim “Jinx” Arashikage

G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero has long had many different variations and reinterpretations of its long standing characters since 1982. Glitter ‘n Gold Jem And Clash—Jem And The Holograms And The Misfits!

Glitter ‘n Gold Jem And Clash—Jem And The Holograms And The Misfits!

Jem is her name and no one else is the same! In 1986 those words were what this fictional rock star sang to legions of little girls and adventure-loving boys, as she and her band, “The Holograms” performed on children’s television sets for about three seasons. Although the cartoon didn’t have a proper ending, it was good enough for fans to have a form of closure as the show came to an end in mid 1988.

Although the dolls were aimed at girls, 20-some years later they make great pieces of history and even better collectables. The Jem dolls were quite …
