Super Bowl Ads

Super Bowl was great but let’s discuss what we watch it for – the ads:

Best: Coke
0 Super Bowl Ads It looked playful and I loved the way the insects worked as a team to get the Coke bottle from a picnic.  Reminded me of one of my favorite games of all time, Pikmin.  It usually it pisses me off when companies copy concepts from other products but this one was done so well that I’m giving it a pass.

Worst: 3-D Gimmick
A couple of ads were in 3-D, like Monsters vs. Aliens and the Heroes’ Previews.  The 3-d glasses just gave me a headache and the colors almost looked black and white.  There was a little 3-d but I’d rather see my ads in regular color and not get dizzy.

Special Mention:

Transformers 2: Rise of the Fallen
0 Super Bowl Ads The title might be crap and sound like a Star Wars movie but I was cheering when I saw the 30 second preview.  The robots look bigger and meaner and the special effects are a bit sharper.  Sure, it looks similar to the original movie, but is that a bad thing?  I’m just happy I’m excited for the sequel after doubting Bay that he’s making the sequel too soon.

G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra – Really, another blockbuster movie with “Rise” in the title?
0 Super Bowl Ads After directing the classic, Van Helsing, Stephen Sommers tries to redeem himself by directing, G.I. Joe.  The trailer was released yesterday on the web but made its tv debut today.  I loved G.I. Joe when I was a kid and I was surprised how good it looked.  The lines were cheesy and some shots reminded of Bay’s movies(Armageddon, Transformers) but it looks like a fun summer movie.  My major complaint was that Cobra Commander looked like a euro trash.  I hope that wasn’t him in the trailer.  My other gripe is Snake Eyes’ costume.  He looked cool in the picture but in the movie it seems like his costume really slows him down and can’t really move.
