In one of the most memorable MMA events in years, Strikeforce returned to its hometown of San Jose, CA to feature the one of the best MMA fighters in the world, Fedor Emelianenko. Emelianenko faced off against the bjj expert, Fabricio Werdum. In the undercard, Cung Le faced a rematch with Scott Smith while Women’s Middleweight Champion Cris Cyborg fought against the underdog Jan Finney. Legendary MMA fighter, Frank Shamrock also announced his retirement.

Fedor Emelianenko vs Fabricio Werdum
In the main event of the night, Emelianenko was more aggressive than usual and put Werdum on his back. Werdum stayed calm and slipped a triangle choke. Fedor tried to wiggle his way out but the submission but it got tighter as time went on. In one of the biggest upsets in MMA history, Fedor tapped to the choke and Werdum got the win. The crowd had plenty of Fedor fans and it went silent as he submitted.
Winner: Werdum
Cung Le vs Scott Smith
This was a rematch as Smith pulled an upset in their first fight and finished off Le in the third round. Tonight, Smith put the pressure from the get go but it backfired as Le countered throughout the fight. Le was picking his shots from the get go and tagging Smith. In the second round, Le became more aggressive and attacked more. Le got Smith in the plexus with his trademark spinning roundhouse kick. Smith fell to the floor and Le finished him on the floor with strikes.

Cris Cyborg vs Jan Finney
Cris Cyborg put her women’s middleweight belt on the line against Jan Finney. Although Finney’s record of 8-7 doesn’t seem impressive, she has won her last 4 fights. First round was a one sided beatdown as Cyborg outskilled and overpowered Finney with vicious bombs. Cyborg got penalized for hitting Finney in the back of the head and 1 point was deducted from her score. Second round was the same story as Finney had no answers for Cyborg’s strength. Cyborg threw more vicious shots but Finney wouldn’t go down. After a hard knee from Santos, Finney finally went down.
Winner: Cris Cyborg
Josh Thomson vs Pat Healy
In the first fight of the night, Healy tried to take home crowd favorite, Thomson to the ground. 1st round was close but Thomson controlled the ground with a close armbar and heel hook attempts. Second round was a different story as Healy slammed Thomson a couple of times and went for some lay and pray. Third round was a back and forth battle as both fighters stood up. Thomson got the takedown in the late round and secured a rear naked choke .
