Street Fighter IV Party!

Two days after the Street Fighter IV launch party at the MOCA in downtown LA, Capcom and GameStop held another Street Fighter IV event.  This time it was for a tournament and party at the Universal CityWalk in CA.  It was a great way to promote the game and now I want to get my rear to the nearest store to grab me a copy.

The GameStop store had most of their kiosks setup with SFIV, except for the Wii kiosks (sorry Wii owners). They also had a Venom energy drink booth, where the lovely booth girls would serve you up some drinks to keep you energized and focus when playing SFIV. I do regret drinking it though because it gave me and my friend bad breath. And when the booth babes would come up to us for some small talk, I was turning my head slightly away from them as to not offend them with my breath of death.

They had contests with signed SFIV games and consoles by producer Ono-san. They were also giving away signed bandanas and posters of the new Legend of Chun Li movie (Yeah, I know what you guys are thinking, that’s a terrible prize). I do love the cosplay contest because there was this cute girl cosplaying as Cammy and her ass was sticking out just like in the game (She won of course).

Since I showed up late to the event, I didn’t get a chance to compete since all of the slots were filled. I decided to just take lots of pictures instead with booth babes and fans galore. So where are the pictures I’ve taken you might ask. The answer is some bastard thief took it. Yeah, it was my fault for jumping up and down when the event host was giving away prizes. I got too excited and the camera fell out of my left sweater pocket. I realized it was missing when I put my hands back in my sweater pocket. Damn those bastards are quick. I don’t really mind losing the camera, but it’s losing the pictures of the booth babes, especially the one dressed like Crimson Viper that made me sad like a little girl who lost her candy. Although GameStop was generous enough to have their own cameraman for the event (see pic above).

To get my mood back up, I decided to just enjoy the rest of the event by watching the players compete to see who’s going to be the top dog. 64 players entered, but only one gets a trip to San Francisco to compete again, but this time it’ll be for the finals. The winner also got chance to play against Seth Killian, a Street Fighter legend and founder of EVO.

The winner of the tournament is a hardcore gamer by the name of Gootecks who’s favorite player of the night was Balrog.  Now he got to square off with Seth, who chose to play the newcomer Rufus, one of the oddest looking character in SFIV. It was an intense battle but Gootecks was finally able to defeat Seth, pretty exciting.

It was a fun event, but I still miss my camera, and I know that shit happens, so I’m going to direct you guys to my rant of the week article here.
