There’s been a lot of rumors swirling lately about JGL possibly being cast in Guardians of the Galaxy but now it’s been confirmed that he will in fact be taking the role of Johnny in this latest Frank Miller/Robert Rodriguez project instead, a part which was originally offered to Johnny Depp. Levitt had this to say: ”I love how the first movie uses VFX, not to make fake things look real, but to create a heightened world unburdened by the look and feel of reality. Plus, nobody makes a badass like Mr. Rodriguez.” This new character of Johnny not originally from the comics is a slick, cocky, gambler type. Looking forward to seeing Levitt playing a bad guy…
Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, Jamie King, Michael Madsen and Rosario Dawson will be back, however the silent killer Miho will be played by Jamie Chung (Sucker Punch) this time instead of Devon Aoki. Law and Order’s Christopher Meloni will be taking over for the late Michael Clarke Duncan as Manute and Josh Brolin will be stepping into the role of Dwight McCarthy, previously played by Clive Owen. This last casting swap will reportedly coincide with the comics where Dwight gets plastic surgery to cover up some serious facial wounds. Alexa Vega of Spy Kids fame will appear as well.
Filming is happening right now at Rodriguez’ Troublemaker Studios in Texas. The release date is set for October of 2013.

Im very glad that JGL chose not to join the GOTG cast, I think he could have been a phenomenal Star Lord but I feel like Marvel/Disney have already made a large monopoly, most of the best actors that are left are all signed on for Marvel leaving all the competition with nothing but scraps.

I’m kinda glad Levitt’s not in Guardians. I’m still holding out for him to play Nightwing. 🙂
