ryder Comic Review: Ryder On The Storm #1

Ryder on the Storm starts off with a suicide mystery, a mysterious but beautiful woman calls our hero, Ryder, to investigate. The woman’s boyfriend committed suicide by drilling holes into his head. You think that’s disgusting? This is just the beginning. As Ryder investigates, he finds out that things aren’t what it seems. The writer sets this up as a Noir-style detective mystery, but the story leads to something more. Let’s just say that the supernaturals are involved, and our hero is caught right in the middle of it.

The artwork is amazing, as it will take you into a Noir-influenced world of water taxis and vintage looking buildings. The atmosphere is almost always dark and damp, and the light source is limited to create a mysteriously creepy environment. As far as the story, I don’t want to reveal much as I don’t want to spoil anything. But, I can say that this comic isn’t for the weary. There’s a scene with blades involved in a circus act, ouch! But, this is why I’m hooked, Hines (writer) doesn’t hold back.

This is a 3-part series, and I can’t wait for the next one. I highly recommend this book, as the artwork is wonderful, and the story is intriguing.
