Remember ID4? I sure as hell do, all the cheesy one-liners, the amazing at the time Special Effects, Vivica Fox as a Stripper, and the toys that came with a cool mini-game on a floppy disk. News across the internet is beginning to surface that there are 2 more films in the works, but bigger question is do we really what 2 more films?
It is reported that original star Will Smith is locked in to return to reprise his role as Capt. Steven Miller. 2012 director Roland Emmerich and writer/producer Dean Devlin are also rumored to return as well. Production is speculated to began as early as next year. Studio source have hinted that the 2 films will be shot in a Matrix/Pirates of the Caribbean back-to-back style because that worked out so well for those films.
I really don’t understand why they would want to tarnish a film that shouldn’t have been good in the first place. Independence Day had just the right combo of hookey one-liners and explosions that made the film surprising good, but good in a campy-dated-Charles Bronson-kinda way. Do they really think that lighting will strike twice? In the end it all boils down to the almighty dollar and studio execs can already smell the blood on this one.
I wonder what the 2 films will be about? Do we hunt them down in space? Do they come back and return Jeff Goldblum on to us, finally answering the question where he’s been hiding all this time? XP
