It is very sad to hear that director Tony Scott ended his life by jumping off a bridge in the L.A. County area. News reports are stating that he had an inoperable brain cancer. However, family members are claiming that they have no knowledge of the cancer.
“Tony was my dear friend and I will really miss him,” said Tom Cruise in a statement. “He was a creative visionary whose mark on film is immeasurable. My deepest sorrow and thoughts are with his family at this time.”
Tony Scott is one of my favorite directors growing up. I was mesmerized by his visual sense, editing style, cool montage, and choice of music. One of his most critically acclaimed film was True Romance with Christian Slater. But, my favorite Scott films are Crimson Tide and Man on Fire. Tony Scott was also influential amongst other directors. Michael Bay used the score from Crimson Tide to inspire some of his actors while filming The Rock.
Tony Scott is the younger brother of director Ridley Scott (Alien, Gladiator, Prometheus).
RIP – You will be missed!
