Update: Please check out our full Resident Evil review here.

Capcom’s Resident Evil 5 puts you in control of Chris Redfield who’s on a mission in Africa on an investigation to stop bioterrorism. He is accompanied by Sheva, his new hot partner who knows the terrains of Africa. Today, Xbox 360 owners get a chance to test out the Resident Evil 5 demo while the PS3 owners have to wait. I have to admit, after playing the demo, I’m not really excited about the game.

The newest addition to the Resident Evil 5 is the option of playing the game online cooperatively with another partner. Wait, never mind, you were able to do this in Outbreak, and with 3 other players.

The thing that I am really iffy about is the controls. They are still using the outdated clunky control scheme from Resident Evil 4. You can run and do quick 180 degree turns, but when faced with hordes of enemies, shooting and aiming is a chore. No, you can’t run and fight, or strafe and fight. You have to stand still while shooting or knifing. Dead Space, another third person survival horror shooter, did it right with its intense moments while being able to move around and shooting at the same time. Nothing stops an intense moment when you can’t move while shooting the infected baddies. Reloading your weapon also causes your character to stand still and this can lead to the enemy taking advantage of you.

But, the one thing that I do love about the demo is the graphics. This is a huge next-gen game, and as such, needs the proper treatment in cool looking heroes and grotesque humans and creatures. If it’s not one of the best, it’s up there with the other great-looking games. A game can have the coolest visual, audio, and story, but the controls can really put a damper on a game. I’m sure there’s going to be a lot of RE fans that’s going to eat this game up when it comes out. Call me picky, but all I want is the ability to walk and shoot at the same time.
