Damn! My PS3 just stopped reading movies and games today. I was watching the awesome show True Blood on my PS3 when it took me back to the “menu”. I tried playing it again and the tv was just black. It seemed like the PS3 was trying to read the disk but couldn’t do it. I tried ejecting the movie but the blue light just kept flickering. I turned off the system from the back and turned it back on. I was able to eject the disk. I put it Underworld: Evolution and it said “invalid disc”. I put in my current favorite game, SF 4 and it also said “invalid disc”. I updated the PS3 to the latest firmware and I put True Blood back in. Same as before, it gave me an error message and the disk wouldn’t eject.
I look up the problem on Google and it seems like the laser is fried. What sucks about this situation is that I’ve had the PS3 for more than a year so it’s not covered by the warranty anymore. I bet having this thing fixed will cost me more than $150. Of course, it breaks 2 months after the warranty ends. I hate this shit. I pay $400 for a machine and it breaks on me. Where are the good old days when you bought a console and still have no problem using it today.
And I thought this was only an Xbox 360 problem, so much for the Sony fanboys that said that PS3 is better because it won’t break down. My friend, who’s a hardcore Sony fan laughed at me last time when I told him about my 360 problems. Then about 3 months ago, his PS3 broke down and he had to send it to Sony 3 times. Right now his PS3 is still broken.
Fucking next gen consoles, you’d think they’d be better made. Now I can’t finish watching True Blood.

Just another reason the Sony PS 3 has been a sales loser for Sony. It’s still overpriced and now it appears to break down on people. That’s just pathetic, man. I hope you get it resolved. They SHOULD give you a new one since its not all that old.

At least Microsoft extended their warranties for free, after they got bad press. Sony needs to do the same!

Well Sony isn’t getting bad press from failure rates, so we won’t see any extended warranties.
