Wanna be in movies? Well here’s your chance! Sony Pictures has just launched a casting website which will allow anyone to submit themselves for casting calls for projects developed under the Sony umbrella. The site is called Face of the Fan and you can access it at: http://www.faceofthefan.com/. The first movie they’re casting is the latest installment of the Underworld series. Here is what Face of the Fan has to say about the role: ” Looking for someone to play a pivotal role as a female teenager in the upcoming sequel for the Underworld franchise. Must be 18 years or older to participate.” The next movie they will be casting for is called Mortal Instruments, a film adaptation of a series of books and graphic novels by Cassandra Clare.
This is exciting to say the least. Fans are being given a chance to get involved with their favorite TV shows and movies and all they need to do is film themselves acting out a short script and submit the clip online. It’s a great gimick, just not sure how well it will work considering the massive amounts of submissions Sony will be receiving. I can only imagine the number of staff it will take to sift through the millions of hopefuls from around the country. But it’s a great way to find new talent. And if you think about it, the music industry has been using Youtube as a feeding ground for a while now.
This will not be happy news for sites like LA Casting who charge a fee to sign up (albeit a small one) and have dominated this niche for quite some time. Of course this will give people who do not live in major metropolitan areas the chance to get discovered. Just think if all the studios create websites like Face of the Fan and start casting their own films. The possibilities are endless.
