NERDSociety.com just got word from Sony that Andrew Garfield will be the new Spider-Man.  The new Spider-Man movie already has a set date of July 3, 2012 and will be in 3-D.  The cast and crew from the original trilogy has been replaced.  This will be a reboot for our web slinging hero.  Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer) will be the new director and said the following of Garfield:

“Though his name may be new to many,those who know this young actor’s work understand his extraordinary talents. He has a rare combination of intelligence, wit, and humanity. Mark my words, you will love Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker.”

Garfield isn’t a household name yet but this role could change his celebrity status.  Garfield was in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parmassus and The Other Boleyn Girl.  I’m not familiar with his work because I’ve never seen any of his movies but based on looks alone, he looks more like Peter Parker than Tobey Maguire.
