The popular rental company, Netflix, announced today that they will be offerring a streaming ONLY service for $7.99. The service will let you watch streaming movies on your pc, tv (with a Netflix Box) and console (PS3, WII, Xbox 360). You can watch hi def movies with the service but that depends how fast your internet connection is. I used to have DSL at 1.5 mbps and that gave me “standard” quality. I swithched to cable and the speed is 10mbps, I get “X-high” to high def titles, which is the best.
Netflix is really pushing for streaming movies and tv shows. In the long run, it probably saves them money instead of mailing the discs to you. I like the idea of their streaming service. Whenever I’m bored, I just turn on my PS3 and use Netflix. There I can browse cartoons, movies and documentaries. What sucks about it though is that the newest movies are about 3-4 months old after their home video release. So if you want to watch Scott Pilgrim, wait a couple of months. You won’t get it right now.
Netflix also announced today that the one and two rental DVD plans will go up by $1 and it’ll be $9.99 and $14.99. The three-DVD price will also increase from $16.99 to $19.99, and the four-DVD plan moves to $27.99 per month from $23.99. No word yet whether the Blu-ray plans will increase but I’m assuming it’ll go up by the same amount.
