I am going to run down (by order of date), the films I think will be most worthwhile for everyone to spend their hard-earned bucks on at your local, overpriced multiplex, because I roll like that. It’s that time of year again kids, strap in, practice your sneer (Jonathan Rhys Meyers style) because it’s time to escape the heat and pay 4 bucks for a watered-down Coke……..edgy.

Iron Man- Robert Downey, Jr is back in a big way and this looks like a fun popcorn summer action flick. At the very least, it will be better than Daredevil.
Redbelt- David Mamet (huh) does a film about mixed martial arts. It will hopefully be a more serious take than the derivative and homoerotic surprise hit Never Back Down…..I was NOT impressed. –smirking

Speed Racer-Â I’m not sure whether or not this film will even be “good”, but on the IMAX with the techno blaring and the cars whizzing by, you may just need a seat-belt.Â
Frontier(e)- The French horror film with tons of buzz gets a limited one week theatrical release before heading to DVD. You can wait to catch it there, but don’t miss the film that looks like Hills Have Eyes, SAW, and Hostel went into a blender and was mashed together with some heavy-handed political commentary tossed in,  involving the collapse of the French government and its left wing ideology. Sweet !

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian- A metrosexual unknown plays Prince Caspian, while the trailers provide plenty of battles and eye candy, but it’s yet to be seen if the film can anywhere near as engaging as the surprisingly effective original.Â
May 23rd
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull- I’m not as “psyched” as I should be for this film, the trailer did not a thing for me…..but I’ll be at the theatre just the same for nostalgia reasons alone. Ford looks elderly in the trailer and seems to be counting the moments till his paycheck clears.
June 27th
Wanted- Angelina Jolie and James Mcavoy star in this very cool and stylish looking thriller from Russian Timur Bekmambetov. He directed two of my fav fantasy films, Night Watch and DayWatch, so I’m eager to see what he’s cooked up here in his big-budget studio debut.
July 11th
Hellboy 2: The Golden Army-Â Guillermo Del Toro’s sequel to Hellboy has a terrific trailer that looks like a lot of fun and doesn’t look as accessible as most popcorn comic book films, and that’s a good thing.
July 18th
The Dark Knight- Probably the most anticipated film of the summer after the untimely passing of Heath Ledger and because Batman Begins was so good.
Momma Mia!- Abba Fans Rejoice ! This musical should be a lot of fun, but the studio must hate it for some unknown reason, they are opening it against The Dark Knight, say goodnight.
July 25th
The X Files: I Want to Believe- Finally !!!!!!!!!!!! A sequel to the extremely popular series and feature film that will hopefully satisfy longtime fans and newcomers alike.Â
Also, be on the lookout for small gems like Tarsem’s mind-blowing fantasy film called The Fall…..which hopefully will be out long before then, and the much buzzed about documentary/reality hybrid called American Teen, a Sundance fave.
