MPAA Fucks Kevin Smith while Unrated DVD Reigns!

Joblo has an article up about their hatred towards the MPAA.  This takes me back to my first viewing of “Indiana Jones: the Temple of Doom.” I was a kid at the time, and the first time I saw the witch doctor performed that heart transplant without the transplant on that poor defenseless dude, I literally grabbed my chest just to make sure no one was trying to steal my heart away. The movie was rated PG, but I bet that if it was released today, it would have been PG-13 at least.

And now, “Zack and Miri Make a Porno” gets the dreaded NC-17 rating while the latest craze that really confuses me is the era of “Unrated DVDs.” Movie Studios recently have been releasing unrated or director’s cut of movies on DVD. You get DVD movies like “Harold & Kumar: Uncut,” “Doomsday: Uncut” or even “Hanna Montana 3D: The Forbidden Edition.”

Why it is that DVDs can be released unrated, but yet in theatres, they are abiding to the MPAA guidelines? Aren’t DVDs more accessible to kids via internet and sharing? Who knows.

As for my opinion towards the NC-17 rating for Kevin Smith’s new movie, I kind of saw this one coming. You got a movie title with porn in it about a guy and a girl making porn.

I’m fine with the MPAA as a whole to let movie-goers know what to expect. What I’m not fond of is the inconsistencies of rating and unrating a movie between theatres and DVDs. Do you guys think the MPAA is being too hard on Kevin Smith’s new movie? And do you guys think the whole unrated DVD business is getting too ri-goddam-diculous?
