Chloe Moretz aka “Hit Girl,” the little purple-haired tornado from Kick Ass, has a new movie coming out on October 1, 2010. Let Me In is the American remake of the Swedish Let the Right One In, a very creepy thriller/horror about a lonely, young boy who befriends a mysterious girl. When I saw the first one, I had no idea what the plot was about so figuring it out was a huge payoff for me. Watch the previews at your own risk because as typical of many movie trailers these days, you feel like you’ve watched the entire film after seeing them.

The trailer for Let the Right One In happily gives away the big surprise, probably because of the popularity of the subject so I’m glad I never saw it until after.  The American version seems to be paying quite a bit of attention to supporting characters and sub-plots over the original storyline which I don’t think will necessarily hurt the movie any (mainstream American films do have a tendency to want to spell things out for the audience as if we’re just too stupid to fill in the blanks).  But I do think the way the original kept the storyline simple and straightforward underscored the cold and quiet of the night-time, snow-covered landscape and made the whole thing just that much creepier. 

The optimist in me wants to ignore those details and in consideration of Chloe Moretz’ decent acting skills, I have a feeling this film might turn out okay. If it’s anything close to the original, they would have to go out of their way to screw it up. Since Let Me In won’t be in theaters for two more weeks, why not check out Let the Right One In if you haven’t seen it already? It’s out on DVD and Netflix has it as well. If you’re a fan of the genre, you shouldn’t be disappointed.
