Rashad Evans vs. Lyoto Machida (Title Match) – The main event of the evening. I’m not sure how to call this fight, as both fighters are very unorthodox with their styles. Machida is known for his “elusiveness,” which means that most fighters cannot touch him on their feet. His judo takedowns are very effective, even against wrestlers such as Tito Ortiz. Evans, on the other hand, is known for getting beat up early in the rounds, but always recovers towards the end. He KOd Liddell in the 2nd round, and TKOd Griffin on the 3rd. I think that Machida will win this via JD. Both fighters are too similar, and will neutralize each other evenly on the stand-up and on the ground. Machida’s takedowns will be the defining factor in this fight. But, once on the ground, I don’t think that Evans can be finished. Machida via JD.
Matt Hughes vs. Matt Serra – Does anybody care about this fight? I don’t. Both fighters are irrelevant in their division, so what’s the point? I see Serra winning this though. Hughes looked terrible in his last 2 fights against GSP and Alves. He doesn’t have the heart anymore. On the other hand, Serra’s last fight was over a year ago, and he didn’t look too good either. But, Serra should win this via JD. I see Serra out-muscling Hughes, but cannot inflict enough damage to finish the fight. Serra via JD.
James Irvin vs. Drew McFedries – Shouldn’t this fight be under the pre-lims? Both fighters are entertaining to watch, but lack the skills to become a true contender in their division. I guess the UFC is hoping for a slug-fest. I see Irvin winning this, he fights more like a kickboxer, while McFedries fights like a boxer. Irvin by KO.
Yushin Okami vs. Dan Miller – Okami can be the next contender for the belt. But first, he has to get through Dan Miller. I don’t know much about Miller but it seems like the UFC wants Okami to take this fight so he can take on Anderson Silva. I’m not a big fan of Okami, his style is boring. He neutralizes his opponent with the takedown and sits there until the round ends. But, he’s going to take this fight via JD.
Sean Sherk vs. Frank Edgar – This should be an exciting fight between the 2 lightweights. Sherk is fighting his way back on top for a rematch with BJ Penn. Edgar is a strong wrestler with a lot of heart. He will fight as much as he can, but it won’t be enough against Sherk. Sherk is too strong and powerful for Edgar to win this fight. I see Sherk finishing Edgar via ground and pound in the 3rd. Sherk by TKO.
