What do they have in common? Big news for fans of the popular Vocaloid character Hatsune Miku, now you can hook up the Xbox Kinect to your PC and use the motion-capture to make Miku dance in real time. Here’s the video released by the developer of the MikuMikuDance program, Yu Higuchi.  (This guy’s dancing is pretty hilarious, too).

Kinect is the add-on for XBox 360 that Microsoft released in November which allows you to use your body to control what the character is doing on the TV screen. Kinect uses a camera that records your movements instead of any hand-held type of remote control. It’s revolutionary for sure, and most likely where all gaming is eventually headed as 3D slowly replaces 2D. Software developers, of course, immediately developed drivers allowing people to do all sorts of nifty things using the Kinect feature by hooking up their PC to the XBox through the USB port. Now some are saying that the little green-haired Miku is even going to help give Kinect an extra boost in sales as Higuchi is including a free driver with his MikuMikuDance program.  I’m thinking it might be a good idea to get a hold of a Kinect before Microsoft figures out how to block its capability to work off the PC without some sort of attachment that only they sell.

This video gives you an idea of just how popular Miku is.
