Hasbro’s Mighty Muggs’ were inspired by urban vinyl figures that are wildly popular in Hong Kong and Japan. The vinyl figures are usually very limited and prices can go up as much as $500. Since the prices for these figures are a bit high, it caters to adults. The style is what makes them so interesting: the cute cuddly characters with baggy pants and hip hop poses.
Hasbro took an inspiration from urban vinyl figures and created their own line, Mighty Muggs. But what makes this line different is that they are mass produced and sells them for a much cheaper price, $9.99. While the vinyl figures only catered to adults in Asia, Mighty Muggs is aimed towards both kids and adults.
Mighty Mugss aren’t too expensive on the secondary market right now because they are constantly released, even the first waves. But they are pretty hard to find because they are so popular. I must admit, I enjoy hunting these figures because they’re not as hard to find as DC Superheroes (only found wave 2 once) and once in a while you’ll have success. Last Sunday I was at Target and found Darth Maul! I’m still waiting for Darth Vader and Boba Fett to ship from Hasbro’s website.
