MGS 4 – First Impression

This game is badass.

Just like the previous MGS games, presentation is top notch. Some of the cut scenes are very impressive. It seemed like they’ve combined live actors with in game graphics. The art direction looks like Ridley Scott’s Black Hawk Down. Somewhat grainy feel with dust and wind creating the atmosphere. The sound is in dolby digital and it’s pretty sweet. Ambient effects like the wind and engines can be heard from the rear speakers. I also like the gunshots. Sounds deep with a lot of oomph to it. In-game graphics is great. Really detailed backgrounds and the character movements are better than I thought. They move somewhat stiff but still passable.

Old Snake surprised me by carrying an Ipod. You can listen to J-pop on your missions. The camera does need a little work but it’s not as bad as GTA 4(I’m still hating on that game). While GTA 4 was just a crappy upgrade/downgrade(depends how you look at it), this one is a true sequel. The MGS story is progressing and it has some cool features. MGS still has somewhat that homo erotic feel: Snake humping the floor, grabbing a statue’s penis. But hey that’s part of the MGS world.

I’m really surprised by this game. I thought it wouldn’t live up to the hype but boy was I wrong. Must have game for PS3!
