The third season of the popular fantasy series Merlin returns to television in the United States courtesy of the Sy Fy Channel. The premiere episode is this Friday at 10pm and I can’t recommend the show enough for old fans and newbies alike. The premise is similiar to Smallville as viewers meet King Arthur before he becomes king (he’s a smarmy Prince Arthur in Merlin) and Merlin is not yet the great and powerful wizard we all know, he’s Prince Arthur’s servant, forced to hide his magical powers from the demented right-wing ruler of Camelot, Uther Pendragon. The casting is excellent, and the show swings wildly from comedy, to campy Xena-style fantasy action scenes with dragons and scorpions and even a more serious tone. As the second season ended, Merlin and Arthur defended Camelot but Uther’s ward Morgana has turned cold and evil thanks to Uther’s dictator-esque ravings and destruction and the viciousness of Morgana’s mother. A powerful enemy within Camelot’s walls, she looks to destroy Uther and bring down Camelot with him.
Merlin was already renewed for a 4th season by the BBC and a fifth season and or specials is also likely. Hop onboard now and enjoy the promo below:
