July marks the first month of the special six figure mini subscription of Masters of the Universe Classics figures based off of the Filmation run of Masters of the Universe and She-Ra: Princess of Power. These figures are brought to us by Mattel and designed by the Four Horsemen. Sold via Mattycollector.com, July saw the release of Icer: Evil Master of Cold!

Icer may be from a separate subscription, but he comes packed in the same MOTUC packaging as other basic figures. The look of the figure is pretty nice in-package. There are a lot of blues and frosted whites, so the presentation is pretty nice.

This figure contains the same level of articulation as other MOTUC figures. He has a very cool translucent look to him and the detail on his hood and boots are very nice. He also comes with an ice pick weapon as well as his special Filmation accurate Staff of Avion. As an overall figure he looks really imposing, and the Four Horsemen gave him an even more menacing look from his appearance in the He-Man cartoon.

The back of the card features other evil characters from the line. Icer is a nice departure from typical He-Man villains. I do not know of any other ice themed villains from He-Man. I would certainly like to think that Frosta would give this evil master of cold a run for his money.

Icer’s bio is interesting, because unlike other MOTUC bios that take the He-Man mythos in a new direction, this bio features details of his appearance in the Filmation cartoon. Icer only showed up for one episode. This is a character that was created by Filmation and never saw a release during the vintage line, so the chance for fans to own him now is fun.

The mini Filmation sub is going to continue on until the end of December. There are all kinds of interesting and unexpected releases in store. Each month we will look at the Filmation sub items as well as the usual releases in the MOTUC line. Stay tuned!

Grade: A (Though he may not be an important figure on my list, Icer does look very cool. Pun totally intended.)
