The Masters of the Universe Classics release for April recently slithered into our collective hearts and turned our insides into stone. Snake Face, the most gruesome of the Snake Men Warriors, was the lone new MOTUC release for the month and what a release he was! Let’s move right ahead into this release that has really grown on me.
The Snake Men have long been a very interesting faction of the MOTU mythos. The original figures were released towards the end of the vintage MOTU toy line so the Snake Men were never really featured in the He-Man cartoon and instead a few showed up as members of the Horde in the She-Ra cartoon. Anyways the new Classic Snake Face is similar to the standard MOTUC figures and comes packaged like the others. The Snake Men sticker is plastered on the bubble like the ones before.
Each Snake Man had some sort of gimmick. Snake Face had the ability to turn his enemies into stone due to the mini snakes that would slither out from his face. He definitely lives up to being the most gruesome. There is a great amount of detail used in the head sculpt that Snake Face has in the package. The snakes coming out of his face and from behind his neck are truly grody to the max, and for some reason I am simply hooked by this. Snake Face also comes with some other items that we will get into very soon.
The back of the card features some of the other Snake Men items that have been released. Kobra Khan and Rattlor are not pictured. There are also some heroic figures shown as well. As usual there is also the requisite bio at the bottom. With so many factions looking to get filled in the MOTUC line, the Snake Men seem close to completion.
Snake Face has a very interesting bio. He seems to have a more prominent role in the Snake Men army. I have never really been a huge Snake Men fan as I was more a POP girl, but I always assumed that Snake Face was just a minor character. However he has slowly become my favorite Snake Man. I think he is just creepy cool.
Here is Snake Face out of the package with his regular face sculpt. The figure is an interesting mix of detail and bland looks. From the chest up Snake Face has amazing detailing.
His arms, neck, and face all have a scaly look and his chest plate is very sleek. The scaly detailing is also under the chest plate as well. I love the look of his helmet and his face contains quite a frightful expression. Then something strange happens, his legs become very plain. Gone are the scaly features and instead there are just plain gray legs and monster feet. This is not a deal breaker by far because the figure does look really cool, but I do wonder if more of a scaly look would have worked better throughout.
Accessory-wise Snake Face comes with some fun stuff. Like other Snake Men releases, this figure comes with a Snake Staff. He also comes with a detailed snake shield, extra head, and snake pieces that connect onto his chest piece.
The shield is detailed with a heavy snake theme. I look at this shield and just imagine that the snakes are real slithering around. I am not a big fan of snakes so owning this guy is pushing some buttons, but in a good way.
Here is where Snake Face really shines. The head sculpt with the extra snakes is just awesome. I can’t say it any other way. The overall effect is simply awesome. I would die in my footsteps if this guy approached me in an Eternos Palace alleyway. The extra snake pieces snap on his chest plate very easily. First you have to remove two black panels on the chest plate; afterwards there are little holes for the snakes to snap into. Together it just gives off an impressive look.
I hate snakes! But I really love Snake Face. I was really not expecting that at all. When Snake Face was first announced I was ready to write him off. Growing up I was just not a big MOTU collector like I was with She-Ra items. However I am finding myself more and more interested in some of these MOTUC releases that I never came close to owning as a kid.
Particularly the Snake Men; they are close to being finished. From the core group, I believe all that is left is Tung Lashor and Sssqueeze. I am very curious to see what the Four Horsemen and Mattel have in store for the rest of the group. They will no doubt make a fearsome batch of enemies for Eternia!
Grade: A (Snake Face earns his A for being a gruesome and grody piece of fun!)

Snake Face is pretty decent, I like that he comes with a good selection of accessories and the detail is pretty cool too.
His regular head has an amusing look on his face just like Rattlor–with not being a Snake Men fan, I think the two of them are a-ok and Cobra Khan was originally just part of Skeletor’s group until the 200X cartoon, so I feel he stands alone from the rest of them, snake guy or not.
The Indiana Jones photo is just awesome! What a great idea, now there is something to flip out about!
Great article, always brimming with great photos!
