Went to Royal/T to check out Zippercut’s first event: Rococo Rendezvous. The event had most people in Marie Antoinette like outfits, while others were dressed up in steampunk and goth outfits. Got to the place around 9 p.m. and the place was already packed. People were mingling and a lot of pictures were taken.
As usual, Betty, who we first met at AX and a Royal/T regular, greeted us with a warm welcome. She looked great in her outfit and I had to take a picture with her. You rock Betty! John Spartan starts talking to Betty about the Dir en Grey concert and the conversation led to self mutilation. They were debating whether the lead singer really cuts himself. Haha. Afterwards we walk around and talk to some people.
Talked to Aimee who said she likes to cosplay because she appreciates the art. She’s been going to AX since 2001 with her cosplaying friends. What impressed me about her dress is that she made the corset herself. I’m no dress expert but it looked pretty good to me. You can check out Aimee’s website at whatishcc.com.

Next up were the super nerdy girls from themissdeeds.com. Not only do the girls like to dress up, they also have nerdy jobs ranging from an electrical engineer to a Microsoft rep. They go by their nicknames that match their personalities such as Miss EEKitty(electrical engineer), Miss Jolie(big Angelina Jolie fan) and Miss Secret(victoria secret fan). Besides being nerds, the group volunteers and helps out charities. How cool is that?
I was surprised more people were coming in later on the night. The event looked like a big success, especially for a first event. Mandy, the promoter of the event and owner of Zippercut, plans on having 3-4 similar events next year. Can’t wait what they’ll come up with.
Walked some more and chatted with 2 girls in lolita dresses. It turned out both worked for Tokyopop.com. I was quickly informed that the dresses they were wearing were not costumes. The dresses ranged from $350 -$500. Those are some expensive dresses.
Last but not least, I talked to Conor, a 6’2 male(6’10 with heels) dressed up in a female maid outfit. He said he has been cross dressing since he was 14 years old. He decided to dress up as a maid because he lived in Japan for four years and grew fond of the culture.
Overall, the event was fun. People were having fun and I met some interesting and cool people. Bring on the next event!
