Wikipedia will not work properly today because it’s protesting a U.S. bill that wants to censor the internet called, Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA). I didn’t really care about it until I went on craigslist last night and they also went dark. I researched more about SOPA and learned this is one fucked up bill. To keep it simple, the bill will allow the U.S. government to block sites that have pirated materials including video clips (movies, sports, news), link to torrents & bootleg & copyrighted images. This sounds like a good law but if you look at it closely, the government can block any site they deem to have such content. So that means they can block google, craigslist, or even FB for having “copyrighted” materials. These materials, of course, come from corporations such as Nike, Disney and Fox. So they’ll pretty much dictate what the Americans can view online. Whether you’re a Democrat, Republican or neutral, this bill is just ridiculous. Lots of artists will probably get their accounts taken down for having their own interpretation of Disney or Marvel characters.
Google is also against the bill
Awesome fan made trailers like this will also get taken down on youtube:
Creativity will be discouraged so corporations will make more money. BOO!
Craiglist has made a list of what you can do to make sure this bill doesn’t pass.

You know what this is really about, right? Stopping the flow of information, period. Occupy and Anonymous have the government running scared because they don’t use newspapers to get the word out. The news agencies are all bought and they only parrot what Washington wants us to think. The government has no control over what goes out over the internet and it’s freaking them out because they’re afraid of uprisings. Small towns right now are buying tanks that have 360 degree turrets. That’s for one thing: crowd control.
