2010 started with a bang, as Long Beach Fight Night (LBFN) held it’s first event of the New Year. There were knockouts and submission the fighters put on a good show. I’ve been covering LBFN for more than a year and I’d have to say this was the best event yet!
Below are the results:
Devin Field vs Leif Lindjhem
This was a back and forth battle in the first round. Field somewhat controlled the ground in the first round but it was too close to call as both fighters landed solid punches. In the second round, Lindjem looked winded and Field got the rear naked choke.
Winner: Field

Jorge Interiano vs. Sean Strickland
This was a fast paced fight as the charimsatic Strickland worked non stop from the opening bell. After throwing several punches, Strickland took Interiano down in the first round. Strickland went for ground and pound but Strickland was able to defend. In the second round, Strickland tried to KO Interiano, which in turned made him tired. Interiano capitalized and landed some good shots. In the third round, Strickland controlled the fight on the ground and got the unanimous decision.
Winner: Strickland

Anthony Smith vs. David Barnett
In the fight of the night, both fighters were trading heavy strikes. The first round was a stand up battle. Barnett was the aggressive but Smith blocked and countered most of his strikes. Smith was blocking leg kicks with his shin and I could hear the “thump”. Man that’s gotta hurt. Barnett was accidentally kicked in the groin. After a time out the fight continued but the pace slowed down considerably. In the second round, Smith got Barnett wobbled and knocked him to the ground. Barnett got back up and got the takedown. Third round was pretty much all stand up with Barnett still being the aggressor and Smith countering. Barnett got a controversial split decision, which got a lot of boos from the crowd.
Winner: Barnett

Chad Walter vs. Jim Ramsey
In the early first round, Ramsey defended a triangle attempt by slamming Walter. Walter went for another triangle and this time, Ramsey couldn’t escape the submission and passed out.
Winner: Walter

Frank Pizzirulli vs. Joe Lewis
In another short fight, Lewis made quick work of Pizzirulli. Lewis landed a knee to Pizzirulli’s face and got the amazing knock out. Pizzirulli was out cold.
Winner: Lewis

Juan Rivas vs. Scott Brommage
Rivas was too much for Brommage from the opening bell. Rivas, who is known for submission, improved greatly in striking. It surprised Brommage and he had no counter for the quick combos Rivas was throwing. In the second round, Rivas continued the onslaught and landed a punch that knocked Brommage down. Rivas finished off Brommage on the ground with strikes.
Winner: Rivas

Mark Vorgeas vs. Martin Bautista
Vorgeas was too strong and too skilled on the ground for Bautista. Vorgeas got a takedown in the first round and finished off Bautista with an anaconda choke.
Winner: Vorgeas

Melissa Steele vs. Karina Hallinan
In the first female MMA fight at LBFN, Hallinan dominated the fight. Hallinan kept tagging the smaller Steele and got a tko in the first round. Steele didn’t really have a chance as she kept backing up while Hallinan threw punches whenever she wanted to.
Winner: Hallinan
Hallinan dominating Steele
Alex Rickards vs. John De La O
After a 4 year hiatus due to cancer, John De La O made his comeback fight. De La O got an early takedown and made quick work of Rickards. De La O submitted Rickard with a hammer choke. In one of the highlights of the night, De La O made an inspirational speech after the fight that got the fans on their feet.
Winner: De La O

Adam Lynn vs. David Gardner
In the main event, it was another back and forth match. In the first round, Lynn controlled the fight with his precise strikes. Second round changed as Gardner got Lynn down and got some punches in.
