It was another action filled night at LBCC as Long Beach Fight Night (LBFN) helds it 9th event. While the fights were good,the biggest news cameThomas Kenney after his fight.
Below are the results from LBFN 9:
Alfredo Borrego vs Jon Levy
Borrego came out quick and landed some stiff shots on Levy. Borrego got Levy down and took a full mount. Borrego was throwing punches from the mount but Levy weathered the storm and got back back. Borrego landed more shots standing up, including a backfist. In the second round, Levy scored some uppercuts, while Borrego looked Winded. Levy got a takedown and controlled the ground. In the third round, it was a back and forth battle with Levy getting a leg sweep. Borrego answered with 2 takedowns of his own. Both fighters were also throwing down and landed evenly. In the end, the judges gave a unanimous decision to Levy with all three scoring 29-28.
Winner: Levy
Frank Pizzirulli vs. Ozzie Avalos
Avalos controlled the fight from the get go. Avalos got two takedowns in the first round and attempted several armbars. Pizzirulli escaped the armbar attempts and survived the first round. In the second round, Avalos got another takedown and finished off Pizzirulli with a rear naked choke.
Winner: Avalos
Danny Lockhart vs Giovanni Sarran
The battle of the heavyweights lived up to the hype. Both fighters were throwing heavy leather in the first round. The heavier Lockhart was throwing combos while the game Sarran went for takedowns. Lockhart was able to stuff the takedowns but couldn’t land cleanly with the shots. In the 2nd round Lockhart threw bombs and Sarran countered with roundhouse kicks. Both fighters were happy to stay standing up. No one really did damage. In the 3rd round, Lockhart was looking to counter while Sarran pushed the fight. Sarran landed some nice shots. The fight went to decision and Lockhart won a unanimous decision of 29-28.
Winner: Lockhart
Mike Frazier vs. Thor Skancke
Frazier had no answer for Skancke. In the first round, Skancke landed some clean shots and took Frazier down. Skancke worked on some ground and pound and almost finished off Frazier. Frazier was saved by the bell. In the second round, Skancke threw some kicks and got another takedown. This time around, Frazier was able to neutralize the ground and pound. In the third round, it was a repeat of the first round with Skancke throwing some punches and getting another takedown. Skancke went for more ground and pound and several times it looked like Frazier went out. Frazier recovered from the punches and survived the round. Unanimous decision of 30-27 was given to Skancke.
Winner: Skancke
Martin Bautista vs. Chris Culley
This was a very uneventful fight. All three rounds consisted of Bautista throwing flurry of punches, clinching and Culley defending the takedowns. Culley would then try to throw punches and get clinched again. The fight went to the judge and Culley got a split decision.
Winner: Culley
Kosetatino Tali Sinoti vs. Manny Lara
The fight started out good with both fighters throwing heavy strikes. Lara got a takedown but Sinoti scrambled and got back up. Lara went for another takedown and broke his left leg as landed awkwardly. The fight was stopped immediately and Sinoti was given the win. Lara was screaming in pain as medics tried to take care of him. Lara was in good spirits as he was taken to the amublance.
Winner: Sinoti
Tyler Weathers vs. Adam Rothweiler
Weathers’ takedowns were too much for Rothweiler. Weathers tried to do some ground and pound throughout the fight but he couldn’t do much damage to Rotheweiler. Standing up both fighters were about even but it was the takedowns that got Weathers the win via unanimous decision.
Winner: Weathers
Harold Lucambio vs. Thomas Kenney
Lucambio went for a quick takedown early in the first round against fan favorite, Kenney. Kenney went for a guillotine and kimura but Lucambio escaped with ease. Kenney gave up his back as he tried to get back up. Lucambio took advantage and went for a rear naked choke, Kenney escaped the submission as the round ended. In the second round, Kenney, was more aggressive and got a couple of shots in before Lucambio landed a solid shot that dazed Kenney. Kenney quickly went for a takedown as Lucambio sprawled. Lucambio took Kenney down and got a full mount. Kenney gave up his back again and Lucambio threw a couple of hard shots from the top. Kenney tapped and Lucambio got the victory.
After the fight, a very emotional Thomas Kenney announced his retirement. He got a standing ovation from the crowd as he was leaving the ring and hugged his friends and family.
Winner: Lucambio
