Long Beach Fight Night was back again for its 10th MMA event and this was the best so far. The action packed night was filled with knockouts as the fighters put on a great show for the near sold out crowd.
Below are the results:
Orlando Aspericueta vs. Robert Vasquez
Aspericueta went for an early takedown in the first round and Vasquez countered with a guillotine. Aspericueta defended the choke and both fighters got on their feet. They exchanged punches but nothing landed cleanly. In the second round, Aspericueta controlled the fight with several takedowns. Vasquez tried to escape several times to no avail. In the third round, the fight went back to the ground and Aspericueta got a rear naked choke over the tired Vasquez.
Winner: Aspericueta by RNC
Peter Baltimore vs. Nolan Ticman
This was a really short fight as Baltimore was outskilled and overpowered by Ticman. Ticman countered Baltimore’s punch with a right hook that ended the fight. Baltimore couldn’t get up from the punch as Ticman looked to the ref to stop the fight.
Winner: Ticman by KO
Dominic Gutierrez vs Thor Skancke
Gutierrez was more aggressive with the strikes against Skancke. Skancke defended the shots and got a takedown. Gutierrez couldn’t get up from the bottom as the round ended. In the second round, Skancke took down Gutierrez several more times. Gutierrez tried to go for several submissions but couldn’t secure it. Third round was the same story as the previous round. Gutierrez didn’t have an answer for the takedowns as Skancke got the unanimous decision.
Winner: Skancke
Dominic Waters vs. Frank Park
Waters dominated Park as the fight started with a judo takedown. Park got up only to be slammed several times. The slams took its toll on park as Waters went for an armbar late in the round. Frank defended the submission as the round ended. In the second round Waters went for more takedown attempts. To Park’s credit he got up a couple of times. The two fighters exchanged heavy punches and Waters landed a shot to Park’s face. Park fell to the ground as Waters went for the finish. The second round ended and with Park taking heavy shots, couldn’t continue to fight.
Winner: Waters by TKO
Joshua Aveles vs. Ismael Gonzalez
This was a back and forth battle with Gonzalez winning the first round with takedowns. Aveles got a mouse on his left cheek but came back in the second round with precision striking. At the start of the third round both fighters already had bruises on their face. It was a stand up war with Aveles’ mouthpiece popping out as Gonzalez connected a punch to the face. Aveles kept on punching and knocked out Gonzalez with less than a minute left in the fight.
Winner: Aveles by TKO
Raja Shippen vs. Chris Culley
This was a short fight and no one expected the quick finish. Both fighters were feeling each other out when Culley went for a combo that ended with a left kick. The left high kick landed on Shippen’s face. Shippen backed off for a second before his eyes started rolling as he fell on his back. The ref stopped the fight immediately.
Winner: Culley
Daniel Mancha vs John De La O
This match ended with controversy and a lot of boos from the crowd. First round was mostly on the ground with Mancha controlling most of it. De La O swept Mancha at the end of the round. In the second round, Mancha got on top of De La O and accidentally punched him in the back of the neck. De La O’s eyes were rolling as the ref checked on him. De la O then unknowingly took the ref down as he thought the fight was still going on. The ref gave the win to De La O via illegal strike. Majority of the fans were booing but from my standpoint, De La O was really hurt from the illegal strike.
Winner: De La O by disqualification
Tony Llamas vs. Cleber Luciano
Luciano went for a quick flying knee. Llamas didn’t expect it and lost his footing as he tried to block it. Luciano pounced on Llamas and got the win with a guillotine.
Winner: Luciano by guillotine.
