I’ve been a Lego fan since I started playing with toys. I remember saving my allowance so I can buy a small set consisting of an easy to build vehicle and a figure. Majority of the fun is from assembling the sets, playing with it afterwards is just bonus. Legos aren’t cheap but today they’re more popular than ever. The brand has expanded to video games, shirts and even amusement parks but their quality has stayed the same: top notch. They put so much value into the sets that kids and adults buy them at a frantic pace (try finding Ninjago and Batman sets when they first came out).
Today, I bough the Wolverine set at Toys R Us ($21.99) and it reminded me why I loved Lego so much…it’s all in the details.
Wolverine’s mask – The minifigure of our yellow costumed superhero doesn’t have his mask on. Lego could’ve just forgotten about his mask but instead, it’s part of the design. When you turn Wolverine around you can see his mask hanging from his back.
2 face – Nope this isn’t about Batman’s enemy, I’m talking about the different expressions from Wolverine and Magneto. Both figures come with 2 expressions: angry and nonchalant cool guy. Only one of the expression can be seen because of Wolverine’s hair and Magneto’s helmet. Now that’s thinking outside the box. In order to change the expression, you just have to rotate the head. How awesome is that?
These guys have more expressions than the legend we call Steven Seagal
Sense of humor – Whether I show the Lego to my mom or to my friends, they always smile at the final product. Lego knows how to combine their sense of humor with ingenuity to create sets that are fun for all ages. Angry Wolverine comes with a motorcycle and its funny seeing him with adamantium claws raging out because he’s so small. Magneto is a nice touch too with his base so it makes it look like he’s floating.
Efficiency – With Lego, no design goes to waste. Deadpool comes with 2 swords and a blaster. But when he’s flying the chopper, the swords don’t fit inside the chopper. Again, Lego, could’ve just ignored this issue and call it a day. Instead, they made a sword placeholder next to the chopper’s missiles. This way, none of his swords will get lost. Way to go Lego.
Magneto too lazy to fly on his own
I think this is the only Lego Marvel set I’ll get. The rest consists of the upcoming movie, The Avengers. They’re coming out with Spider-Man in a couple of months though but for now I think I’ll focus on the “City” police line. They have some cool vehicles for it including a chopper and a transporter.
Lego is not cheap but if you choose your sets carefully, you’ll find its worth your hard earned cash because of the fun factor and creativity.
