Upper Deck, the collectible card company known for sponsoring Michael Jordan, Ken Griffey Jr. and Wayne Gretzky is in a legal battle with Konami over Yu-Gi-Oh cards. Upper Deck is in a lot of hurt with their sports cards so they decided to venture out and team up with Konami. According to Hockeybuzz.com, Konami and Upper Deck teamed up since 2002 and made $17 million dollars in one quarter alone.
Everything was going good until Konami noticed Vintage Sports Cards selling rare Yu-Gi-Oh cards at Wal Marts for a cheap price in 2008. So Konami sued Vintage Sports Cards alleging them of making fake “rare” Yu-Gi-Oh cards. Vintage fired back saying they got the cards directly from Upper Deck so they shouldn’t be sued. Konami investigated the claim and found out it was Upper Deck who had the counterfeit cards made from a different factory in China. Konami sued Upped Deck in the range of $50 – $150 million and settled it out of court. Pretty sleazy what Upper Deck did. When I was a kid, Upper Deck was the best brand. Their cards were glossy and the print was good. I stopped collecting baseball and basketball cards about 12 years ago and I guess during that time Upper Deck went downhill. Collecting sports cards wasn’t as popular anymore and all the kids jumped on the Pokemon battle card games.
Today, Konami is distributing the cards alone without any help from other card companies.

That sucks! I know upper deck is a good brand but why they resorted to selling cheap fake cards? I guess, only they will know.
