So there was something very interesting I noticed while watching the commercials for the new HTC DROID Incredible phone, Verizon’s new exclusive phone.  At the end of the commercial at the bottom of the screen in not so visible lettering it says “DROID is a trademark of Lucasfilm Ltd.”

Can you see it?

A little bit closer and cleaned up.

So it turns  out that indeed George Lucas owns the rights to the word “Droid,”  the copyright was registered in 1977 before the release of STAR WARS: A New Hope.  So you’d think that since they’re already paying for the licensing they’d at least come out with a couple Star Wars themed phones with cool ringtones and soundbites from the movies.  I can already see that the C-3PO model would be the lowest selling phone for being so annoying.
