Heroes Season 3 Episode 8: Villains Recap

Now we’re getting to the good stuff.  An exciting episode from Heroes? You’re kidding me right?  Well this episode has me excited only because it was able to link season 3 to season 1.  Even though the episode is called “Villains,” it should have been called, “How Heroes Got Fun.”

The Past

In the last episode, we end up with Hiro with the African’s power, which I learned in this episode that his name is Usutu.  Hiro’s eyes turn white and he is unconscious.  With the Usutu’s powers, he is now able to see the past, about 18 months to 12 months ago, which is the events taking place before and around the first episode of season one.

Meredith

In the previous episode, Meredith teams up with HRG.  In this episode, you get to see that she has worked for the Company before, by partnering up with Thompson (Eric Roberts, from such hits as The Dark Knight).  She partners up with him, only after being caught by him.  Thompson also captures Flint, which we find out is Meredith’s brother.  After finding out that Flint is locked up, Meredith breaks him free from his prison, and they both escape to Mexico.  Thompson follows them and Meredith uses her flames to escape from Thompson, but in doing so, derails the train by catching it on fire.

After the chase, Thompson finally cuffs Meredith, only to find out the reason why she ran away in the first place because she doesn’t trust the Company.  The Company has taken her daughter, which she believed to be dead during the fire that she presumably created during a house fire.  Thompson decides to let her go.

If you have read the online comics from season one, then you’d know that Claire was found during a house fire, and that’s when the Company found her and takes her to HRG to adopt.  I love it when things piece together.  And it’s in that scene with the train on fire that Claire shows up to rescue a man caught in the fire that was from season one.  I wasn’t sure if it was Flint, but I’m going to assume it’s him that she rescued.

Sylar, Elle and HRG

Season one was about stopping Sylar.  This episode shows Sylar with the capacity for human emotion even before Angela changed him.  After finding out that his hunger for power comes at a cost of human life, he tries to commit suicide, but Elle comes just in time to save him.  She pretends to befriend him, but in turn, has grown a soft spot for him.

HRG tells Elle that she has to make Sylar feed, because the Company finds his powers fascinating.  She succeeds by bringing in a young dude named Trevor with the power to break glasses by pointing at them (really?).  Elle makes Sylar jealous of Trevor and in the end, Sylar’s animal instinct takes over and he kills and takes Trevor’s power.  I find it ironic that HRG’s most feared enemy was his own creation because of his loyalty to the Company.

The Petrelli Family

Now we get to the main plot of the episode.  How is it that Arthur was living all this time when we, the audience, were told otherwise?  Who’s the real angel?  And who was the one that put Arthur in a coma in the first place?  That would be Angela.

Angela has gained a lot more respect for me now.  We find out that Angela was the one that put Arthur in the hospital by poisoning his food with the help of the Haitian to block his powers so that he couldn’t read her mind.  She did this because Arthur was trying to kill Nathan, their son.  Nathan was trying to bring Linderman down, and Arthur felt threatened because it would bring him down too. This is why Arthur ordered a hit on his own son.

We see that Linderman always was a decent guy.  He healed Angela’s mind because of what Arthur did to her.  He erased her memory so that she would comply.  Ok, wait a minute, if Arthur could erase her mind and make her obey, couldn’t he do the same to Nathan?  This way, he doesn’t have to kill his own son.  Damn Petrellis always trying to kill each other every chance they get.  We got this last time when Peter shot Nathan when he could of just time traveled back to tell him what’s up.  Because of the attempted murder of Nathan, Nathan’s flew for the first time out of fear, and also why his wife is in a wheel chair.

The Present

Hiro wakes up from his sleep, now knowing everything, and now has to tell Angela about Arthur.  Hiro and Ando hear a scream outside the hut and goes outside to check out what happened.  They see that Usutu has been decapitated (Weird how Usutu didn’t see that one coming).  Hiro finds the missing head, and is confronted by Arthur, who now knows that Hiro can ruin his plans.  He now takes Hiro’s powers thus making him really powerful.

Oh man, all I have to say for the next episode is that Arthur is truly the most powerful now with immortality, flight, invisibility and the ability to time travel.  Let’s hope that the next episode can be as entertaining as this one.
