Sundays @ 9p – HBO
Remember Band of Brothers? I do, it is one of my favorite shows of all time. It’s like watching a 9-hour long drama about the heroes of WWII. Now, comes The Pacific, instead of Europe, this mini-series will focus on the lives of the regular Joes that served in the Pacific (duh!). While the first episode of Band of Brothers was a bit slow, because it focused on their training prior to becoming paratroopers. The Pacific is different, no training. Instead, it focuses on the family stuff, and where they came from. Where they came from prior to being sent to the jungles of Guadalcanal. The first scenes were in black & white, it shows a reel footage of Pearl Harbor, and Roosevelt’s infamous speech.
As expected, the show is very well-made. The acting is good, and the cinematography is top-notch. The sound-design is simply awesome! The CG is good enough, however, some scenes still look fake. It’s acceptable though, because unlike 2012, it’s the storyline that carries this episode, not the green screens. The action scenes are very well done, I can keep up with what is going on, even at nights.
This is a good start, as I hoped for. I can’t wait for the second episode.
