peaceful Graphic Novel Review: Peaceful Warrior

Written by Dan Millman, Peaceful Warrior is about a gymnast named Dan (same name as author) who struggled with his identity and the pressure of winning the gymnastic tournament at his University. He is good, but he is troubled by the death of his father. This becomes a distraction for him. So, to quell his restlessness, he starts jogging before sunrise. He encounters a gas station, and talks to the janitor. The janitor is the same man in his dreams. He doesn’t know who this man is except that he is very philosophical. So, Dan calls him Socrates. Socrates shows Dan the way of the peaceful warrior in Dan’s quest to competing in the gymnastic competition.

This is an entertaining book. It is somewhat motivational and the message is good. The words are big and easy to read. The illustrations are simple, and easy to understand. Note that the art is drawn in black and white, but I think that it fits the mood of the story. My only minor complaint is, sometimes, the text bubbles are almost aligned next to each other making it hard to figure out which comes first. But, overall, it’s an easy read where the illustrations flow well from one page to another.

I recommend this graphic novel, especially for the fans of the original book.
