Tour Info: The Great Vacation Tour 2009
Location: House of Blues on Sunset
GLAY came packed with an energetic audience, screaming with anticipation once the band came up on stage. Their songs are very laid-back and happy. Teru (vocals) is very comfortable with the crowd, singing in his leather clothes with his chest opened for the fangirls to drool over. “We love you! OK, let’s sing it together,” shouts Teru as he gets the crowd to pump their fist.
The music leans more towards the pop-rock side, with catchy tunes and Teru’s voice is filled with emotions while he uses his hands to hypnotize crowd. It doesn’t matter if you can’t understand Japanese, it’s still an experience, and even we gaijins can join in on the melodic chanting (or a-hootin and a-hollerin).
One of the highlights of the show was when Jiro rocks it out with his bass guitar fast and then his two hands vibrate back-and-forth, jamming on the body of the guitar. He knows how to turn on the fans.
GLAY is definitely for those of you who like rock with actual melodic vocals and not the screaming and yelling variety (Don’t worry Dir en grey, I still love you).
