Whether it’s for 1/6th action figures or Disney, I love conventions! This weekend, it was for COMICS! The first ever Long Beach Comic Convention was held at the Long Beach Convention Center and plenty of stars showed up. The convention focused more towards comics than pop culture. Comic greats, Stan Lee (Spider Man, Hulk), Jim Lee (X Men, All Star Batman & Robin) , Jeph Loeb (Batman: Hush, Red Hulk) and J. Scott Campbell (Danger Girl, Gen 13) showed up and lended their support. Jeph Loeb was a very busy man, signing as much as possible. He said he hates it when he can’t sign for everybody and there’s a limit restriction. His panels were educational and funny as he talked about the comic industry and Hollywood. Jim Lee was also signing like crazy and taking pictures with fans at the same time. Thinking back about it, the comic/celeb guests were really open to their fans and took their time answering questions. Even the barefooted, Thomas Jane (Mist, Punisher) watched movies with the fans and gave away free shirts with his friend Tim Bradstreet (Punisher, Hellblazer). For once, the free shirts weren’t all in XL and Bradstreet handed me a shirt that fits me, small!
Comics galore!
Is he ever happy?
Attendees were enthusiastic for the event and plenty dressed as their favorite characters…plenty of pictures were taken. The exhibit hall was where I dropped most of my cash, buying collectibles and comics. C & C Collectibles had a crazy auction at the end of the show where they there bidding high end collectibles for $1. I jumped in on that and got a couple of figures. Statues retailing for $500 were sold for $95. The owner didn’t hold back with the auction and I was impressed. Only if I had more cash, I would’ve gotten so much more!!!
Looking forward to next year’s event where I’ll bring more cash and mingle some more with the comic industry giants.
