All things must come to an end, and for the first time I am happy that this toy line finally did. Mattel can make figures here and there, but it is done…so much misinformation this year.
The final figures of Masters of the Universe Classics actually do not disappoint—there are negatives as usual; maybe if I was a fanatic my story would be told in a different way; but what people need to understand is, I have 30 years of MOTU in my veins and I am critical of what Mattel destroys, changes and even does right. I would never just bash for no reason and without an explanation.
So, let us begin, there are great joys in some of what I am going to show. All reviews are open package, so enjoy.
To start, the last 200X figure from the special side subscription is Prahvus, he appeared in one episode of the 200X series and got his ass handed to him by the Sorceress.
The front is the usual bubble and holds the figure pretty well; he is kind of large in the back and was not easy to get out.
The back of the card has a bio that is 99% crap; don’t broaden a story from a character who appeared for 2 minutes.
With the packaging out of the way, the figure…IS cool! Painted with a great dark and light blue color scheme, Prahvus really stands out. He is well detailed from his long facial hair piece to his horns and loincloth.
The back of the figure shows his large, detailed cape that hangs from one shoulder which is very interesting. The inside of the cape has a texture to it, giving it the details that make him worth—something…so far he is doing better than Ceratus, right?
Some details of note are most of his head, from his horns and once again, the facial hair piece that sticks out, which gives it a three dimensional look.
Included are a mace weapon that is all original and a magic, genie lamp, each have great detail and go well with the figure.
Prahvus is no Veena, but he is pretty cool.
GRADE: B+ (He is far more interesting than I thought he would be).
On to the last single figure in the line…200X Sorceress!!! Oh…wait, no…it’s not…
This is the son of He-Man and Teela. Let me get some complications out of the way first. When the New Adventures of He-Man started, Prince Adam had ended up vanishing forever (this is from the mini comic just to mention) The Sorceress states that he is Prince Adam no more and only He-Man. So, Prince Adam never has kids…He did get to marry Teela though, which makes sense—I don’t know where that story came from, but it makes sense.
So, let’s start with the issues…the front of the package calls him He-Ro II…now is that He-Ro the second or He-Ro 2…how lame can you get; does no one at a toy company or in comics have any thoughts on what he should be called after holding aloft his magic sword?
The back of the card has a bio that can be anything anyone wants it to be…the issue, his name is Dare? I dare you to stick your finger in the outlet or is it more Japanese sounding like Da-ray? …yeah…I doubt it, it’s Dare…I dare you to knock over old Cringer, I dare you to kiss your mom, I dare you to put Orko in a sack and beat him to death. There are a million names out there; Adam is a normal name, so his son should have had the same…what is royal like?
Oh well, Son of He-Man is a good name for the character.
So, let us check him out, the sculpt is perfect, he looks like a copy of New Adventures He-Man, from the head to the legs, but that is OK. His armor is interesting, a red jewel on the center instead of the Corridite Iron Cross. The Power Sword is really cool, it is actually very fresh-looking and hardy…but, if he is unable to win with a sword like a real man, he also has a laser pistol at his side.
The back of the Son of He-Man shows the rest of the armor and the slot for the sword, also his ponytail, pretty cool.
Also offered is an alternate armor which is very New Adventures, it is a pain to put on; you have to remove the figures head, and then try to get the pegs to sit.
There is also a slot for the sword on this armor too.
I have nothing against this figure except the names; I really feel they could have done far better, but I don’t hold my breath thinking that they would even try.
Now, here is an interesting group; Perfect Alcala He-Man, Son of He-Man and Filmation Teela…one big happy family.
GRADE: A- (The figure’s sculpt is great, the names are just horrible).
Now then, the last 2 pack in the line, saving the best for last, I am excited, are you?
The most sought after European Masters of the Universe figures to ever be created. I believe the date was 1987/88. The ebay prices are INSANE!!! And people actually pay them.
Packaged in a large 2 figure box, Laser Power He-Man and Laser Light Skeletor!!! Sold out on Crappy Collector.
The back of the large box has the usual stuff; bios that are made up and an extra space for the figures in the lower right.
The package is a little tough inside; meaning that getting Skeletor out is not easy, but he did go back in when I was done playing with them—I mean taking the photos…heh, heh…
In appearance, these awesome pieces are sculpted so well that they make the originals look like a child’s Playdoh project, (yeah, that is cruel to say). He-Man has a great design and has…a sword that lights up with a golden glow.
Skeletor is better…much!!! His red hand lights up and it allows his staff to somewhat glow, not very well, but who cares…get this!!! Skeletor’s eyes glow red, it is so damn cool!
The figures house batteries in their large backpacks.
The top of the pack has a blended in button that temporarily lights up the individual figures feature. I guess it saves on the battery and bulb life.
The detail on poor old Skeletor is amazing, he looks like he has seen better days, all of the implanted wiring and bionics, a very old and tired looking face; he needs to retire to a planet away from Castle Grayskull, he just won’t ever be able to get his hands on the power. Skeletor has a removable hood to show the detail of his head, he is pretty much the New Adventures Skeletor, just cooler.
He-Man is impressive, the detail and color just pops and he too looks a bit older in face. His large sword fits in the side of the backpack and he has the detail of the special wrist piece that allows him to hold his sword straight in the air—By the Power of Grayskull…
A quick note, the original figure had two versions with a new head and then there was one that had the original figures head; with the head that came with the Subscription Exclusive figure, you can change it up to give that appearance.
I originally thought that this set was not part of the subscription, I am so glad that it is or was; I love it, it was something that I really wanted and worried about it being a part of the SDCC and I would never have it.
Oh…right…when I opened the box, this crap fell out of the back. 2 books of toilet paper and the instruction sheet for replacing the batteries.
The toilet paper–all of the mini comics have been packaged in a baggie behind the figures, I guess they realized how shitty they are and just shoved them in the box. Both tell a boring story on the Son of He-Man and so much of it is out of order and doesn’t make any sense. The artwork is great, what a really fine artist they got to draw to a horrible, horrible story. I have nothing more to say, anyone who has read past reviews that had the new mini comics in them know what I think of them.
Laser He-Man and Skeletor
GRADE: PERFECT!
The trash—I mean mini comics…
GRADE: F—————-
So, that is it, no more He-Man. My first figures were Keldor and a reissue of Faker, both bought on sale day at Crappy Collector. This was years ago. I had the subscription a few times and was happy and disappointed at the same time. Figures such as Stinkor, Trap Jaw, Ninjor, Two Bad, Saurod and Blade, Orko, Queen Marlena, Evil Lyn, Zodac; most of the She-Ra figures or Princess of Power. The cats, the giants, the special, the subscription only, Wundar, Teela, Sorceress and Veena—the vehicles, Point Dread and the Talon Fighter, the Wind Raider…I can go on forever, a wonderful selection of great figures, sculpted so well.
This collection of MOTUC made me laugh, made me cry and made me kiss lots of money goodbye…but in the end, it is a great blast from the past, something that I enjoyed more than hated…but, in the end, I am glad that it is over.
We at NERDSociety.com would like to thank the readers of Miss M’s and Paladin’s MOTUC reviews, I hope regardless, you enjoyed them to some level, we tried our best with what we had to make them fun for you.

And just like that they line is over. My goodness I am with you on being glad that those year long subscriptions are over and done with. Like you have said there was a lot of great things to come out of this line and a lot of frustration too. We’re talking about what, seven years of a toy line, and a very expensive one at that. I’m glad I joined you with these reviews and you really did a great job on them. You were always honest and refreshing with your views. I’ve enjoyed your reviews and the pictures you have shared.
I like the facial sculpt for Laser Light Skeletor. His face looks like that of an alien, which is fitting for the New Adventures space theme. Also it is fitting that this final set would be released as one of the last items of the entire line. Really great set and perfect to have the light up features involved. You also know my views on the mini comics included. I’d much rather read the original ones.
Dare is meh for me. I think I would have enjoyed him more had we also gotten a Queen Teela figure to go with Kinf He-Man so they could be one big happy looking family. But the sculpt of the figure looks nice. I don’t get the name. Makes absolutely no sense.
They also did a great job with Prahvus. The coloring and over all sculpt looks great. I can’t believe it is finally over with. I remember when the King Grayskull figure first came out and then I was right there getting He-Man and then waiting patiently month after month for each release, never thinking this line would go on as long as it did. The She-Ra and PoP figures were my favorite of course, but I also enjoyed collecting the Horde figures as well as some of the Masters and Evil Warriors. I even really became fond of the NA figures which I never thought I’d do. What a very long ride though. Great job on everything Paladin!

Another great review. I always enjoy the vivid photos of the figures and your extensive knowledge of them. I would probably wear out that Skeletor because I`d be physically unable to stop making his eyes glow! The photo of that is AWESOME.
I don`t know why they can`t include better comics in the packages. They do look nicely drawn, but should have more coherent storylines for true fans…it`s only fair!
I know you dropped some serious cash on these figures…. but it`s cool to have a whole set of something and they undoubtedly look amazing in your place.
