Giggity, giggity!
The Family Guy Kidrobot figures I’ve been waiting for, finally arrived at my doorstep today. For those of you guys that’s not familiar with Kidrobot, they’re a designer toy company focusing on limited edition merchandises and urban art. Kidrobot has made figures from Fox before, including Simpsons and Futurama. There newest 3-inch line is for Seth McFarlane’s Family Guy. The figures come in boxes and wrapped so you don’t know which character you’ll get. Think baseball cards, that’s part of the excitement! At $10 a pop, they’re not cheap, but there design really stands out from other action figures found at Toys R Us and Wal-Mart. These toys are meant for collectors.
Meg
Just like their previous lines, I like the claymation look of the characters. The figures look like they can be used for reference by the show’s animators. Paint job can be hard for smaller figs but they’ve done an excellent job. Skin tones are different between the characters, which is a nice touch for hardcore fans. Color is spot on and doesn’t bleed. Black are really dark and creates the “animation” feel. I got 5 boxes and got the following figures:
Peter Griffin (2)
Meg Griffin
Glenn Quagmire
Joe Swanson
Peter Griffin is one of the most common figures but I was still bummed I got a duplicate. Out of the 4 characters, my favorite has to be the temper headed Joe Swanson. I love his wheelchair accessory. All of the figs came with accessories. Peter had the most with 2, a beer mug and his glasses. All of the figures are sculpted well and captures the sarcastic look from the show. These figures are small so make sure you don’t lose them, especially their accessories.
Notice the different skin tone between Peter, Quagmire and Joe.
Although these toys aren’t cheap at $10 per figure, I’d highly recommend. The quality is great and the sculpt is spot on. With McFarlane Toys not making anymore Spawn figures, Kidrobot is becoming my favorite toy company.
One advice, if you don’t want to get duplicate figures. I suggest finding a friend that also collects these toys. Then if you get a double, you can just trade figures with your friends…just like baseball cards.
